Bestfriend dolls?

Everyone your right on target. As along as people buy the friend dolls Mattel will keep making them. As a few know I made the best friends and worte up the propsal. Although Kaya was not in there since she wasn't out before this was made. Belive it or not it is not up to Mattel as it is up to the writers. As you know Valerie Tripp wrote most of Samantha and Samantha being the flagship making her best friend first seemed easy concidering Mattel owns Samantha. Now it is up to the authors which dolls will come out next. Janet Shaw wrote Kaya as well as Kirsten as Connie Porter wrote Addy and though we know Valerie Tripp as no problem writeing the stories on her chaicters it might be differnt for the other authors. Now looking at some of the books I thnk Janet Shaw has NO probelm writting about Kaya due to the mystries although it will be a bit of a challange to write about a blind girl although wonderful idea to do so. It would be instresing to see her point of view (no pun intended). I think due to the short stories Connie Porter will proably jump at the chance to write about Addy from another point of view and continue her stories.

just bringing this post back up again, does anyone know about publishing/authoring rights to an AG character?

Ruthie is my all time favorite friend. It is sort of funny because I have no interest in Kit. Kaitlin and her cousin, Anastasia, split the Samantha and Nellie pair. Depending on my SIL's feelings and financial situation, I think it would be fun to do the reverse with Kit and Ruthie. We already owned Felicity. She is a gift to Kaitlin from my mother and was purchased before Kaitlin was born. So that ruled out the Felicity and Elizabeth pair. Although I am not sure how my SIL will feel about this. She does like Kit. She bought it for her younger 1/2 sister. But they are expecting another baby this winter. So I don't know how she will feel about adding another doll to her daughter. She told me she only plans on giving her daughter at most 3 AG dolls. I don't want to dominate which ones she gets.

NellieGirl: I'm just a little confused by your post where you say it's up to the writers as to which best friend will come next. Doesn't Mattel own the rights to the dolls and "employ" the authors just to write the books? Then in that case, they pick who they want to come out next and then hire an author to write the book. They could also hire a different author if they were not totally pleased, wanted a different view point, or the original author was not interested in doing another book.

I'm just trying to say that I think it's more of a point of who owns the rights to the characters and whatever else goes along with them.

When reading the books, I bonded strongly with Kit and Ruthie, Felicity and Elizabeth, and Samantha and Nellie. I'd like to see a friend doll for Addy mainly so that there would be another A/A doll, hopefully with a different face mold than Addy so there would be a noticeable difference to her. I agree with some of the other posts, especially Marianna for Josefina, she just wasn't in enough of the stories, I could substitute Kaya for Singing Bird (again not in a lot of the stories) and I think the hardest one will be for Molly. It would almost have to be Emily, but I don't really see her as her best friend. In the new book isn't she staying at her Grandma's house? The new girl isn't a best friend that she would see at home, so I'm not sure about that one either.

Still hoping for a brand new American Girl to come along too, like an Asian one, of any nationality, of any time period, would make me happy!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mattel owns ALL rights to the American Girl characters. The authors of the books are paid a fee to write them, and do not own the copyright to the books.

This is one of the reasons Mattel trademarks the dolls names and product lines (Hopscotch Hill is a trademark).

I agree with the person that said if people keep buying the friends dolls Mattel will keep making them. And if they are all as nice as Nellie, this AG fan will keep buying. [img]wink.gif[/img]

It will be anguishing waiting to see if more than the 3 we know of will be made. I really am hoping for all the dolls to get their best friends. As if I didn't have enough dolls already. LOL
